Ihr drittes Album legen die Schweden von Night vor. Darauf ist deutlich zu hören, wie sie ihren Heavy Metal weiter entwickelt haben und jetzt sogar noch mehr die Gründerzeit des Genres aufleben lassen. Wer ihre Landsleute von Dead Lord kennt, wird auch mit dem neuen Album “Raft Of The World” etwas anfangen können. Und siehe da, mit genau der Band gehen sie jetzt auf Tour, der X-CRASH natürlich beiwohnen wird. Erstmal aber hat sich Gitarrist und Sänger Oskar die Zeit genommen, sich für euch unseren Fragen zu stellen.

Joxe: Hallo Oskar. Mit Gitarrist Sammy gehörst du zu den Gründern von Night. Erzähle uns doch bitte von der Zeit, als ihr als Band zusammen kamt!

Oskar: Hallo! Wir haben uns 2011 formiert, weil wir Heavy Metal spielen wollten. Wir jammten fast jeden Tag nach der Schule und als wir eine handvoll Songs hatten, entschieden wir uns, unsere erste Show zu spielen.

Joxe: Erzähle uns bitte etwas über deinen Nick “Burning Fire”. Worum geht es dabei?

Oskar: Die Idee mit den Nicknamen war ein Weg, sich über komische Heavy Metal Namen lustig zu machen. Ich war der einzige in der Band ohne Spitznamen, also benannte ich mich selbst nach dem toughesten Ding, das mir einfiel: ein brennendes Feuer!

Joxe: Ihr habt euch beim Bandnamen auch etwas simples ausgedacht. Was bedeutet die Nacht für euch und eure Musik?

Oskar: Wir haben lange nachgedacht, uns einen guten Bandnamen auszudenken, aber nichts klang uns gut genug. Dann fiel uns NIght ein und wir glaubten, das sei der coolste Bandname ever. Allerdings ist es schwierig, damit nach uns zu googeln.

Joxe: Für deine Freunde von Screamer bist du kurzfristig für die Bass- und Vocalparts eingesprungen. Sie hatten einige Livedates zu absolvieren und wollten nicht absagen. Wie erinnerst du dich an die Zeit?

Oskar: Als ihr Sänger ausstieg, sprach ich mit Henrik darüber und bot meine Hilfe an. Nach einer Weile rief er wieder an und ich war für den Sommer dabei. Mit Screamer zu spielen war eine große Erfahrung. Ich hatte wirklich Spaß in der Zeit mit ihnen.

Joxe: Und dann wurde Henrik von Screamer euer Livedrummer – die Revanche? Haha …

Oskar: Für eine Zeit hatten wir keinen festen Drummer, da machte Henrik ein paar Touren mit uns und wir hatten eine großartige Zeit mit ihm!

Joxe: Wie würdest du die Entwicklung eurer Musik vom Start bis jetzt beschreiben?

Oskar: Anfangs hatten wir eine klare Vision davon wie wir klingen wollten. Wir haben nur alten Heavy Metal gehört und das wollten wir auch machen. Unser erstes Album ist purer Heavy Metal, aber über die Jahre haben wir damit begonnen, unsere Visionen zu erweitern und das kann man uns auch anhören. Unser neues Album “Raft Of The World” ist dynamischer und durchdachter geworden.

Joxe: Auf eurem neuen Album “Raft Of The World” geht ihr wieder einen Schritt weiter zurück zu den Anfangstagen des Heavy Metals, in Richtung Retro Rock wie Dead Lord. Ich nehme mal an, ihr seid Fans von diesem Zeug?

Oskar: Ja, ich denke das deckt sich mit unserem Musikgeschmack. Wir wollen das spielen, an was wir glauben. Unser Sound hat sich auch durch verschiedene Members geformt. Joseph (Bass) und Dennis (Drums) hatten eine große Aufgabe, den Sound dieses Albums zu formen.

Joxe: Wo habt ihr aufgenommen und wer war Produzent?

Oskar: Es wurde in unserer Heimat Linköping im Studio Ganymeden mit Ola Ersfjord und Linus Lundgran aufgenommen.

Joxe: Wer war der Künstler für das Artwork? Es sieht nach einer neuen Dimension von Dunkelheit aus, als ihr auf den Artworks zuvor hattet …

Oskar: Das Artwork stammt von Mattias Frisk. Er hat alle unsere Cover gemacht. “Raft Of The World” ist eine neue Dimension von Dunkelheit, die du auf unseren Alben zuvor nicht gesehen hast. Ich denke, das Albumcover drückt das gut aus.

Joxe: Können wir eine Tour in Deutschland erwarten, wenn „Raft Of The World“ veröffentlicht wurde?

Oskar: Wir sind sehr stolz auf dieses Album und wollen so oft wie möglich touren, um den Rock zu verbreiten! Zunächst kommt unsere Europatour mit Dead Lord im August und September 2017.

Joxe: Du spielst bevorzugt Flying-V Gitarren. Hast du eine bestimmte Intention dazu, oder verwendest du auch andere Modelle?

Oskar: Die meisten Gitarristen, zu denen ich aufschaute, haben Flying V’s gespielt, daher war es eine einfache Entscheidung für mich. Mein Favorit ist aber meine Fender Stratocaster, die benutze ich am häufigsten.

Joxe: Zum Schluß fragen wir immer gerne nach deinen Lieblingsalben für die einsame Insel. Welche Fünf würdest du auswählen, wenn es morgen losginge?

Oskar: Das ist eine harte Frage, denn ich mag eine Menge Alben. Aber wenn ich jetzt wählen müsste: Saxon – “Strong Arm Of The Law”, Hällas – “Same”, Twisted Sister – “Under The Blade”, Steely Dan – “Can’t Buy A Thrill” and Mercyful Fate – “Don’t Break The Oath”.

Joxe: Okay Oskar, Danke für das Interview. Die letzten Worte gehören dir!

Oskar: Ich möchte mich für dieses Interview bedanken. Ich bin zum Release ziemlich aufgeregt. Wir haben eine sehr lange Zeit daran gearbeitet, daher fühlt es sich großartig an, es euch endlich allen vorzuführen!

Joxe: Hello Oskar. You and Sammy are the only founding members left in Night. Please tell us about the time you got together as a band?

Oscar: Hello! We formed the band in 2011 because we wanted to play Heavy Metal. We jammed after school almost every day so when we had a couple of songs we decided to play our first show.

Joxe: Please tell us about your nick ‘Burning Fire’, what is it about?

Oscar: The idea of having nicknames was a way to make fun of silly heavy metal names. I was the only one in the band without a nickname so I named myself after the toughest thing I could think of: A Burning Fire!

Joxe: You also decided for a simple name oft he band. What does it mean to you and for you music?

Oskar: We were trying to think of a good band name for a while but nothing sounded right for us. Then we came up with ”Night” and thought it was the coolest heavy metal band name ever. One downside though is that it can be hard to find online.

Joxe: For your friends of Screamer you jumped in for the bass- and vocalparts in a short time. They had some livedates to do and did not want to cancel. How do you remember those times?

Oskar: When their singer had quit the band I talked to Henrik about it and I offered my help. After a while he called me again and I was in for the summer. Playing with Screamer was a great experience. I had a really fun time with them.

Joxe: So Henrik of Screamer got your livedrummer …. the revenge? Haha…

Oskar: For a period we didn’t have a permanent drummer, so Henrik did a few tours with us and we had a great time playing with him!

Joxe: How would you discribe the way your music developed from the beginning to now?

Oskar: In the beginning we had a clear view of what we wanted to sound like. We did only listed to old heavy metal and that’s what we wanted to do. Our first album is pure heavy metal but over the years we have started to broaden our musical views and that is clear in our music too. Our new album ”Raft of the World” is more dynamic and thoughtful in a way.

Joxe: On your new album „Raft Of The World“ you go one more step back to the old days of heavy metal, in Direction Retro Rock, like Dead Lord. I guess you are fans oft hat stuff?

Oskar: Yes, I think it goes in line with our taste of music. We want to play what we believe is good. Our sound have also been formed by different members over the years. Joseph (bass) and Dennis (drums) have been a big part in forming the sound of this album.

Joxe: Where did you record and who was producer?

Oskar: It was recorded in our hometown Linköping at Studio Ganymeden with Ola Ersfjord and Linus Lundgren.

Joxe: Who was the artist for the artwork? It seems to be a new dimension of darkness than you had on the artworks before.

Oskar: The artwork is made by Mattias Frisk. He has done the artwork for all our albums. ”Raft of the World” is a new dimension of darkness that you haven’t seen on our previous albums. I think that the album cover expresses that in a good way.

Joxe: Do we have to expect a tour in Germany after releasing „Raft Of The World“? 

Oskar: We are really proud of this album and want to tour as much as possible to spread the rock! First up is our European tour with Dead Lord in august and september.

Joxe: You prefer to play flying-V guitars. Do you have a special intention to them or do you use other models, too? Wich one do you play on the album?

Oskar: A lot of the guitarists I’ve been looking up to have been playing Flying-V’s so it has been an easy choice for me. My favorite guitar though is my Fender Stratocaster. I use that guitar the most.

Joxe: Finally we would like to ask you for your favourite albums for the lonely island. Wich five would you pick, if the journey starts tomorrow?

Oskar: That’s a hard question since I like a lot of albums but if I had to choose right now: Saxon – “Strong Arm Of The Law”, Hällas – “Same”, Twisted Sister – “Under The Blade”, Steely Dan – “Can’t Buy A Thrill” and Mercyful Fate – “Don’t Break The Oath”.
