Heavier als Sister Sin

Für nicht wenige Fans der schwedischen Heavy Rocker Sister Sin ging im November 2015 die Sonne unter, als die Band ihre Auflösung bekannt gab. In der offiziellen Begründung hieß es, dass man besonders durch das Touring an seine Belastungsgrenzen gestoßen ist und nicht mehr alle Members zu 100% Vollgas geben können. Dass Sängerin Liv aber irgendwie weitermachen wird, war den Fans dennoch klar. Nun liegt das Ergebnis auf dem Tisch, nennt sich „Follow Me“ und darf sich stolz das erste Album von Liv Sin nennen.

Joxe: Nach dem plötzlichen Ende von Sister Sin musstest du komplett neu starten. Wie lange hat es gedauert, bis du die Idee für Liv Sin hattest?

Liv: Ich würde sagen ein paar Monate. Zuerst war ich sehr traurig und enttäuscht wegen Sister Sin, dass ich nicht wirklich über etwas anderes nachdenken konnte.

Joxe: Wolltest du kein Sister Sin Mitglied in der Band haben und lieber ein komplett neues Ding starten?

Liv: Mir war danach, dass ich völlig neu anfange. Ich wollte es total frisch und neu mit Leuten machen, die näher zu der Gegend wohnen, wo ich lebe.

Joxe: In Christoffer, Patrick (Gitarren), Per (Drums) und Tommie (Bass) hast du neue Bandmates gefunden. Gelang dir das auf dem klassischen Weg in sozialen Medien, oder kanntest du sie alle schon vorher?

Liv: Vorher kannte ich schon Patrick und Per, aber Christoffer und Tommie musste ich erst kennenlernen. Und ja, ich fand Christoffer durch Instagram, aber Tommie war dagegen eine Empfehlung von einer anderen schwedischen Band, Hardcore Superstar, für die er in der Crew arbeitete.

Joxe: Würdest du sagen, dass Liv Sin ein Bandname ist, oder sollte er als ein Soloprojekt verstanden werden?

Liv: Für mich ist es eine Band, so war meine Idee, obwohl sie meinen Namen trägt.

Joxe: Anstelle eines Artworks habt ihr euch für ein Bandfoto entschieden. Habt ihr das so gemacht, weil ihr euch als Band präsentieren wolltet?

Liv: Ja, das kann man so sagen.

Joxe: Wie geht eure Arbeit vonstatten, wer macht was beim Songwriting?

Liv: Patrick ist mein Riffmeister, er macht das meiste der Musik und ich schreibe die Lyrics und die Gesangsmelodien.

Joxe: Ich bin froh, dass euer Stil jetzt mehr Metal als Rock ist. War das so deine Intention, oder würdest du sagen, es war mehr eine natürliche Entwicklung, deinen Frust rauszupusten?

Liv: Es war meine Intention! Ich wollte schon immer Musik machen, die heavier als Sister Sin ist, wofür ich nun die Möglichkeit habe. Ich bin sehr froh, Leute mit derselben Vision gefunden zu haben.

Joxe. Meine Favoriten auf dem Album sind “The Fall” und “Hypocrite”. Wer hat die Musik geschrieben?

Liv: Ahhhh, das sind auch meine beiden Favoriten!! Wie ich schon sagte, waren das Patrick und ich, wir schreiben die Songs. Ich erinnere mich daran, als er mir das Riff von „The Fall“ sendete. Da wusste ich sofort, dass es ein Killertrack wird.

Joxe: Ich erinnere mich daran, dass du deine Gitarre verkauft hast. Hast du das Spielen drangegeben, auch fürs Songwriting?

Liv: Hahaha! Ja, das habe ich … und ich kaufte mir eine Neue. Also ja, denn ich habe auch etwas Musik geschrieben, aber ich bin nicht so gut wie Patrick und Chris. Es war manchmal einfacher, meine Riffideen für Patrick zu singen als sie selbst zu spielen, haha.

Joxe: Für die Aufnahmen hast du dich für Stefan Kaufmann und Fitty Wienhold entschieden, den U.D.O. Leuten, mit denen du schon mit Sister Sin auf Tour warst. Ich glaube, sie waren deine erste Wahl, liege ich da richtig?

Liv: Ja, absolut. Ich habe sie auf Tour ziemlich gut kennengelernt, besonders Fitty. Darum habe ich ihn als erstes gefragt, ob er Interesse habe.

Joxe: Ihr habt “Immortal Sin” von Fight gecovert, dem ersten Soloding von Rob Halford. Sehr cooles Namensspiel übrigens. Würdest du nicht sagen, der Song ist straighter als euer eigenes Material?

Liv: Ist er, ja. Aber ich denke auch, es macht eine gute Balance mit dem Song.

Joxe: Du singst den Song zusammen mit Jyrki von The 69 Eyes. Kanntet ihr euch vorher schon?

Liv: Ich kenne Jyrki schon über zehn Jahre. Ich wollte mit ihm immer schon mal was im Duett machen, denn er hat eine unglaubliche Stimme. Ich bin so froh, dass es endlich geklappt hat.

Joxe: Du hast bereits so einige berühmte Musiker getroffen, wie Vinnie Paul (ex-Pantera, Damageplan), Nik Stalvind (Wolf, The Doomsday Kingdom), Angela Gossow (ex-Arch Enemy) oder Doro. Stehst du noch in Kontakt mit ihnen?

Liv: Einige ja und andere nein. Ich bin einfach nur froh, diese großartigen Musiker getroffen zu haben!

Joxe: Hast du noch Kontakt zu den Sister Sin Jungs?

Liv: Ein wenig schon, besonders Jimmy (Hiltula, Gitarrist, Anm. d. Red.). Ich vermisse ihn.

Joxe: Wo wir grad dabei sind, bist du auch noch in Kontakt mit den Mädels deiner ganz frühen Band Hysterica, wo du zwischen 2005 und 2008 gesungen hast?

Liv: Oh, absolut! Ich liebe diese Mädels.

Joxe: Davor warst du noch für ein paar Demos bei Into Desolation. Es ging damit aber nicht wirklich los und die Band stoppte ihre Aktivitäten. Wie kam es dazu?

Liv: Ich erinnere mich nicht mehr genau, aber ich denke, ich hatte zu sehr mit Sister Sin zu tun.

Joxe: Ihr habt gerade eure ersten Gigs unter dem Liv Sin Banner gehabt. Das war in Spanien, nicht in Schweden. Wie seid ihr dort angekommen?

Liv: Wir haben noch nicht in Spanien gespielt, das wird erst im Herbst sein, haha. Unseren ersten Shows waren in Norwegen und Schweden und ich denke, sie waren ziemlich gut. Natürlich waren wir ein wenig nervös, aber so soll es sein, nicht wahr?

Joxe: Liv Sin steht in den Startlöchern und will mehr Gigs spielen. Was sollten eure Fans in der Zukunft erwarten?

Liv: Mehr Touren, mehr Heavy Musik und noch mehr Spaß! Wir sind bereit für die Welt und den Leuten zu zeigen, dass es die Sache Wert ist, niemals seine Träume aufzugeben!

Joxe: After the end of Sister Sin you had to start completely new. How long did it take until your idea to Liv Sin?

Liv: I would say a couple of months, first I was just so sad and disappointed about Sister Sin that I couldn’t really think about anything else.

Joxe: Didn’t you want to have a Sister Sin menber in the band, or did you want a complete new thing?

Liv: I felt that if I would start all over again, I want to do it totally fresh and new, and with people closer to the area where I live.

Joxe: In Christoffer, Patrick, Per und Tommie you found new bandmates. On the classic way per serch in social media, or did you already met them before?

Liv: I knew Patrick and Per from before but Christoffer and Tommie were new to me, and yes I found Christoffer through Instagram, but Tommie was actually a suggestion from another swedish band, Hardcore Superstar, he work for them as crew.

Joxe: Do you think, Liv Sin is an bandname, or should it be understood as your solo-project?

Liv: For me it is a band, that’s my whole idea, even though it does have my name to it.

Joxe: How does your work happen, who does what in songwriting?

Liv: Patrick is my riff Master, he makes most if the music, and I write the lyrics and the vocal melodies.

Joxe: Gladly I discovered your style is now mor metal and less rock. Was it your intention or do you think it is more a natural development blowing out the frustrations from the past?

Liv: It was my intention! I’ve always wanted to play a bit heavier music then Sister Sins, and now I’ve gotten the opportunity. I’m very happy to found people with the same visions for that!

Joxe: My faves on the album are “The Fall” and “Hypocrite”. Who wrote the music?

Liv: Ahhhh that’s my two favourites too!! As I said before It’s Patrick and me who write the songs, and I remember when he sent the the riff for “the Fall”, I knew it would be a killer track.

Joxe: I remember you selling your guitar. Did you quit playing even in writing songs?

Liv: Hahaha yes I did… and I bought a new one.. so yes, I also did some music writing, but I’m not as good as Patrick and Chris, so sometimes it was easier to sing my riff ideas for Patrick then me actually try to play them haha.

Joxe: You decided for the recordings to take Stefan Kaufmann and Fitty Wienhold, the U.D.O. guys you’ve already been on tour with Sister Sin. I think they were your first choice, am i right?

Liv: Yes absolutely, I got pretty close to the guys when we toured, especially Fitty, and I asked him first if he was interested.

Joxe: You covered “Immortal Sin” of Fight, the first solo thing of Rob Halford. Very nice title in reference of your name. Don’t you think the song is more straight than your own material?

Liv: It is yes, but I also think it makes a good balance with that song.

Joxe: You are singing the song together with Jyrki of The 69 Eyes. Did you already met before?

Liv: I’ve known Jyrki for over 10 years, and I’ve always wanted to do a duet with him, he has an amazing voice, so I’m so happy it finally happened.

Joxe: You already met some famous musicians like Vinnie Paul (ex-Pantera, Damageplan), Nik Stalvind (Wolf, The Doomsday Kingdom), Angela Gossow (ex-Arch Enemy) or Doro. Do you still stay in contact to them?

Liv: Some I do, and some I don’t. I’m just happy I got to meet these great musicians!

Joxe: Do you still have contact to the Sister Sin members?

Liv: A Little bit yes, especially Jimmy, I miss him

Joxe: You just had your first gigs under the name Liv Sin. It happened in Spain, not in Sweden. How did the audience welcome you?

Liv: We haven’t played in Spain yet, that’s this fall haha. Our first shows have been in Sweden and Norway, and u think they went pretty good. We were a bit nervous of course, but that’s how it should be right?

Joxe: Instead of an artwork your choice was a fotograph of the band. Was it your intention to show yourselves as a band?

Liv: Yes you could say that

Joxe: By the way, are you still in contact with the girls of Hysterica, where you sang from 2005 – 2008?

Liv: Oh absolutely, I love those girls!

Joxe: Before that you were for some demos in Into Desolation. It did not start up and the band stopped the activities. What was the reason?

Liv: I don’t really remember, but I think I got to much to do with Sister Sin.

Joxe: Liv Sin is ready for start and playing more gigs. What should your fans expect from Liv Sin in the future?

Liv: More touring, more heavy music, and much more fun! We are ready to take on the world,and show people that it’s worth not to give up your dreams.
